week 39
I'm ticking along in week 39 and totally dying to get this over with. I'm soooooo uncomfortable and grumpy and generally acting freaky and miserable. Unfortunately, my obgyn declared my cervix to be "unfavorable", which means its tight as a clam and doing nothing. Sigh. I know that doesn't mean anything really. It's almost impossible to predict when labor will start. It could be tomorrow or it could be two or even three weeks from now -- God Forbid. I'm not sure my sanity would hold out that long. I'm just so fed up with being pregnant. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I so hope the baby is healthy and happy because I am never, ever doing this again. I don't do pregnant well --- either mentally or physically.

When I was 10 days late with Ro boy, every one kept saying asking me if I was going crazy but I wasn't. I was fine the whole time and didn't mind being late. This time is a totally different. I wanted to give myself a c-section all day Thursday. I'm doing better today (Sunday).

Montessori
I got a book about using Montessori teaching methods at home. I did Montessori when I was a kid and I think it's about the best preschool system ever. I loved it. The book is really interesting. One thing is points out is the flaws in using fake toys with kids vs. the real thing. For example, Ro boy has a wooden tool bench. It's a stupid toy. He only plays with it occasionally because all you can do really is pound in a few wooden nails. There are some wooden screws, a vice, and other miscellaneous wooden bits - but you can't really do anything with it. Roen made his own tool bench out of a cardboard box and some real nails in the basement. He was much happier with it. He loves pounding nails into drywall with a real hammer and pulling them out with a real hammer. He does this with supervision of course. We got him a real metal toolset for Christmas although I'm tempted to give it to him for his third birthday. It took me ages to find it because it was made in France and I had to order it from England. A total pain but you can't find toys like this here because everything is safe and plastic and totally useless and stupid. We live in such a litigious country, companies can't sell anything that requires supervision because of all the stupid people. I think that's sad but people still leave children unattended in bath seats even though they have big warnings written right on them. Sigh.

preparing for brotherhood
We're still playing with the baby doll a lot and reading a book called I'm a big brother. Ro is very attentive to it and also he finally seems to get that there's a baby in mommy's tummy. Although he say's there's one in his too but I tell him that only mommy's get babies.

However, he's really sweet to the doll. Friday, he did the old piggy nursery rhyme on the dolls toes -- (his version) This little piggy Market, this little piggy home, this piggy wost beef, this piggy none, this piggy wee wee wee all way home. It was so cute. I was getting all teary eyed at how nice he was being. It was also the best he's done the rhyme. Mostly all the piggies go to market except the last one. I change the rhyme so much to suit the occasion, so I don't expect him to ever learn it properly. Before bedtime, I do the This little boy went to bed version. Ro boy really loves it. I have to do his hands and his feet before he'll go to sleep.

abcdefg
Ro boy has been singing the alphabet song like crazy. I usually hear snatches of it being mumbled while he plays, shopping in the grocery store, driving in the car, etc. It's made the alphabet really confusing because we were doing phonics but not the alphabet. I'm not really sure which to pursue now. I've been considering getting him a leap book but I hate electronic toys. Really hate electronic toys. Most (but not all) are obnoxious. Ro boy likes things with buttons though and I can see him learning from it because even as a tot he's way more gadget oriented than his mother. Studies have shown that boys learn better when computers and junk are involved, where as the electronic stuff doesn't have much affect on girls. So, I don't know. I'm contemplating.
