They accepted our house bid!
Providing the engineering inspection goes well, the house will be ours. I'm only semi-excited at this stage though, because there's mold in the basement, so we're paying an extra $300 for a mold inspection/testing to make sure it's just some old basement mildew and not toxic black mold or something. I met a woman today who had the house they were going to buy tested for mold and it was positive for something really awful, so the seller had to rip out all the old drywall and replace it in the entire house. Damn. Anyhow, the house is being inspected next Tuesday and we'll have the mold tests back on Friday or maybe just after Labor day. Just barely in time to give the two months notice required by this complex. Yeesh.

Below is the house.....
It's a 1948 cape cod, 1900 sq. ft., 3 bedroom, 2 bath, and a one car garage on a .4 acre parcel, which is a huge lot for the area we bought in, which is called Brighton. The exterior is stucco, which is my favorite type of house exterior and the reason we went to look at the house in the first place. Most houses around here are vinyl or aluminum siding, which I dislike. We also got the house for $20,000 less than their original asking price because they were desperate to sell.

This is the house from the back. It has lots of trees and the entire backyard has a big wooden privacy fence around it. Ro boy loves the huge yard. The bay window area is a little eating nook in the kitchen, which you can see in the following picture. To be really useful, we need a custom fit table for the area, so we may ask FIL to make one for us for Xmas. He has a woodworking hobby.

The kitchen. It's been redone. Unfortunately, not to my tastes but it's very serviceable and will do for several years until we save up enough money to get new cabinets. The red arrow points to me. All the appliances are quite new... And there's a fairly new washer and dryer.

This is the living room. They put a wood burning stove in the fireplace, which I'm actually happy about. In general, I'm not thrilled with fireplaces though it's nice to have an alternative heat source if necessary since we live in the great white north.

I'm excited about decorating. I love Photoshop for pre-planning. We photographed the house like crazy, so I can plot out all my decorating ideas digitally. Below is my current idea for the exterior. I prefer tan stucco rather than white. Maybe that's from living in Arizona for so long. I don't know. I tried a taupey sort of color as well and that looked good too.

You know, Shanny. I don't know how you survived back to back closings and related house/moving stuff. I'm finding the first time home buyers stuff to be really overwhelming. I was on the phone for about 2 hours today with about 10 different people. Ugh. I feel like I've mashed my brain through a sieve.

Thanks for all the good wishes.... They are greatly appreciated.

And for the green bean suggestions. My mother's garden is in serious green bean output mode. We're going to be buried.

Oh yeah, today is our four year wedding anniversary. We both forgot and were reminded by our parents. Both sets called to apologize for not sending us cards. he he. It's been one crazy, crazy week.
