I wasn't in a good mood yesterday. I have ferocious PMS and I never, ever realize it. All day I felt so grim mentally that going out and kicking dogs and stealing kid's candy sounded like a good time. Sigh. Eventually, I work out it's PMS and then feel better about feeling crazy --- which somehow makes me feel less crazy. As the physical symptoms of my cycle have improved (or gone away entirely), the mental ones have gotten much worse. It seems so unfair although really it's pretty fleeting. I usually only feel nuts for several hours. I sleep badly too which doesn't help matters either. The worst thing is getting in a negative train of thought like I'm the world's worst mother and Ro boy is certain to grow up to be a homicidal maniac. My marriage is clearly on its last legs and I have a headache therefore I must have a brain tumor and I'm going to die. So on and so forth. Man, I really LOVE hormones. I'm better now though. I only had about 10 hours of nuttiness. Today, I'm fine again.
sit & knit
I really love Sit & Knit. It cheered me up immensely. We meet at a Starbucks on Thursday evenings. It's so nice to get away from your child, work on a project, have adult conversation and caffeine. It's also really good to have someone explain to you how to do the seed stitch rather than figure it out from a book, or in my case "not" figure it out from the book. The book left out important details. So, I was just tying the yarn in interesting knots that got uglier and uglier as things went on. Now, things are going nicely although I find purling to be very awkward. I think I'm going to make a knitting section to the blog. Husband's already come up with a title for me, Power Mommy's Knitting Storm. He he. You'd have to watch Saturday morning cartoons, more specifically Power Rangers Ninja Storm (sort of Dr.Who crossed with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) to appreciate the pun but I think it's a funny title either way. Unforunately, the show is really terrible.
advice
Sometimes, I ask other parents for advice. Mostly, it's useful. Sometimes, it's funny. Because I was feeling unable to cope (due to PMS), I was asking another mom how she coped with her two kids all day without freaking out. I told her sometimes I thought I was going to go nuts with just one and she nodded sympathetically and then she got this look on her face that really made me think she was going to tell me something profound about motherhood. I got sort of excited. Then, she said, " Well, have you considered taking an afternoon nap?" I didn't know whether to laugh or what. It just wasn't the response I expected. Although, I agreed. An afternoon nap can make all the difference.
Friday Five
1. What's the last place you traveled to, outside your own home state/country?
Arkansas in March/ England in 97
2. What's the most bizarre/unusual thing that's ever happened to you while traveling?
No matter what country I've been to, people in major cities attempt to ask me directions. This has happened in France, Holland, England, Germany, Italy, and Spain.
3. If you could take off to anywhere, money and time being no object, where would you go?
New Zealand/Australia
4. Do you prefer traveling by plane, train or car?
Ideally, I'd like to travel by train. I hate flying and I'm not really into driving either.
5. What's the next place on your list to visit?
I don't really have a list. I have so many other responsibilities that travel isn't really a priority. I always want to go back to England. Ireland would be good. I'd like to spend more time in Canada as well. I'd like to see Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and Petra in Jordan. Mauritius, of course and Sri Lanka. However, there's so much unrest, I doubt I'll ever go to any of those places. I'm not really into death or being taken hostage or something.
