I spent the better part of yesterday wearing a red, plastic fire hat ---- because we went on a tour of the local firehouse. Ro baby loved the important parts of the tour, such as the dog, who did a little demo of the “stop, drop, and roll” method of putting out a fire on your person, and the trucks, which he got to sit in and turn their steering wheels. The rest of the tour was more or less boring to him and surprisingly interesting to me. I’ve never been in a firehouse before. I enjoyed seeing the ”jaws of life”, which is basically a hydraulic can opener used to cut people out of smashed cars. I was in a bad auto accident when I was a teenager and had personal experience with this device. They covered me in a blanket, so I wouldn’t get glass and metal in my face and a fireman got under the blanket with me to talk to me the whole time so I wouldn’t go into shock. So, I heard the “jaws of life”, but didn’t actually get to see the device at the time. I still remember how nice and calm the firemen and EMTs were. They were good at their job.

Anyhow, when we left the firehouse, they gave the kids red, plastic fire helmets. Ro baby loved it and he wore it all the way home and then he decided he wanted to see Mommy in the hat and so I let him put it on me – and he laughed. Then, he made me wear it ALL DAY – even in THE BATH. Every time I took it off, he would find it and bring it to me to put on again --- and again --- and again. :) The things you’ll do for the people you love.

I’ve been crushingly busy with taxes, work, getting my new computer up to speed, and getting ready for my in-laws visit. My new computer is an emac with a gig of ram. I’ve had it for a while now actually, but I haven’t been using it because it’s such a pain reinstalling software and transferring everything over. ugh Now, I just have to tidy up my old one and then sell it. I’ll miss my imac. It’s a lot cuter than these emacs, which I think are a bit ugly. I was so tempted to cough up for tablet PC but that would mean switching to windoze and I’m not ready to do that yet. I want a Mac tablet computer but alas, they do not exist --- yet. So, I'm just biding my time.
