baby bunI'm 24 weeks pregnant now, which means the baby is now considered viable and has a chance to survive outside the womb -- if I freakishly happened to go into labor or something. Everything is all there now. The baby just has to get bigger and stronger.
had an obgyn appointment last week. My doctor is sending me for another ultrasound. Hooray. We get another chance to find out if it's a boy or a girl, which is good because we're getting no where on picking out a name yet. I'm drinking a "Starbucks ultra caffeinated espresso something or other" to make sure the little tyke is more lively next time and not snoozing. I couldn't get another ultrasound appointment until March 2nd though. Seems like a long time to wait.
Ro boy - the enigmatic Ro boy has been a busy little guy as usual. He used to never leave his room in the morning but now he comes in and gets us up, usually by dragging all the blankets off the bed, which isn't too fun on a chilly, winter morning. The other morning he came in and climbed up on Daddy's side of the bed and repeatedly dropped a stuffed cat on Daddy's head and said "Cat" every time he did it. Daddy said it was an interesting way to wake up.
Ro boy loves our bed. He drags the blankets and pillows off of it every day and uses them to build himself a nest on the floor. We're getting kind of tired of having to redo it every night but he enjoys playing on it so much that I never want to say no.
In some ways, Ro boy is a lot like living with a foreign exchange student that doesn't know anything whatsoever about American customs, mores, language, etc. I never really know what he's going to do. For awhile, he was acting like a dog a lot. Now, that's fading away and he's really interested in spitting. He spits on his hands and then smears it all over his face until he's all shiny. It's bizarre. I can't really decide if it's something I should react to or not. I haven't been so far.
Despite the tantrums and such, I really like toddlerhood. He just does such strange and funny things that are so baffling. For example, Ro boy and I ate pizza the other night for dinner. Daddy got home from work just as we were finishing up. He sat down with his pizza and Ro boy immediately ran around to his side of the table, grabbed the pizza and came back and put it on my plate. He didn't touch it after that. He just looked at it. So, I suggested Daddy and I swap places at the table. Once we did that, Ro boy grabbed the pizza slices again and ran back around to other side of the table and put them back on Daddy's original plate. We were baffled at this point. He didn't want Daddy to touch the remaining pizza at all even though he didn't seem to want to eat it himself. It seemed like he just wanted to put it down somewhere and look at it. He was sort of peevish with Daddy for eating it.
me I spent most of last week in a zombie-like state as Ro boy started night waking and then he'd go back to sleep and the baby would start kicking me. Urgh. Tag team parent torture. Yay. Something I'll have to get used to for the next decade. I'm semi dreading the rest of this year only because I know how disrupted my sleep is going to be. I'm so tired every day. Being pregnant is just fundamentally tiring but being a pregnant parent is much worse.
I'm feeling better this week but I have so much to do all the time. This week is husband's birthday. We'll be going out to dinner the next three nights with various people and I'm having my parents over for dinner tonight. I'm making husband a "from scratch" banana cake with cream cheese frosting. Yum. I got the cake out of the pan without tearing it all up and I'm feeling quite chuffed about it. That's typically where I run into problems.
