I was just reading my friend ljc's blog and she mentioned squishing marshmallows into taffy and I had a weird flashback to my childhood. I remember watching Little House on the Prairie afterschool and eating little marshmallows. I always squished and pulled them into little balls because I thought they tasted better that way. I think it just gets all the air out and you get a more concentrated marshmellow taste. I never thought it tasted like taffy either.

I've always preferred the small marshmallows to the big ones though. The big ones don't seem to taste as good to me. I think the ideal marshmallow-related food is the rice krispie treat. S'mores are good too but tend to make me feel a bit ill in an overindulged sort of way. I can only eat one...or maybe a half a one.

People do some strange things with marshmallows. When I first moved to Rochester, I discovered fluffer-nutters. My step-grandmother made them for her grandchildren. As you can probably guess, it's a marshmallow fluff and peanut butter sandwich. I wasn't really into it but the little kids were. Incidentally, marshmallow fluff does not contain gelatin like marshmallows do......so if any vegetarians have been denying themselves rice krispie treats, use the fluff rather than the marshmallows and you can indulge again.

When I was young, a woman at our church made mini-christmas holly wreaths out of corn flake treats dyed green and sprinkled with red hots. They were actually pretty good. I imagine just about any plain type of cereal would work with marshmallows except for maybe All Bran or something. I could really go for some rice krispie treats right now. yummy. My junk food cravings have been increasing the last few weeks.

Baby stuff

Still no baby and no sign he's coming soon. Only 3 days left until the due date... maybe he'll be fashionably late like his parents frequently are. :) This morning we woke up just in time to rush to a meeting with Ro baby's future pediatrician. She seems nice and friendly. She's also open to modifying the vaccination schedule for paranoid me. I'm not into the idea of Ro baby getting a bunch of shots at once. They're trying to encourage people get their children vaccinated for Hepatitis B, which seems really weird to me. It's essentially a blood borne or sexually transmitted disease and vaccines are only good for 10 years or so. Medical professionals have to get vaccinated of course for their own safety but vaccinating kids seems crazy unless the parents have it. I'm opting out of that one. Why take the risk of a reaction? I'm a little leary of vaccines. My uncle has won about 30 cases against pharmaceutical companies for vaccine injury/death of children - most were DPT related though. They have a safer DPT vaccine now that uses acellular pertussis (DTaP). Hopefully, I'll be able to get that one.
